BASIC TRAINING DESCRIPTION: The Full Training is a two-day course designed for new community corrections staff who have had no formal SOA-R training in the past from the State of Colorado (or Correctional Management, Inc). It is also appropriate for current staff who have received informal SOA-R training only. Trainees will learn to administer and interpret all instruments in the SOA-R process including the Simple Screening Instrument-Revised (SSI-R), the Level of Supervision Inventory (LSI), the Adult Substance Use Survey-Revised (ASUS-R), and the Service/Treatment Recommendation Worksheet (TxRW). Trainees will also learn the interview skills necessary to administer the SOA-R process and will learn the basic stages of change model. Staff will also learn to administer the Colorado Criminal Justice Mental Health Screen for Adults (CCJMHS-A) and all procedures recommended to make a mental health referral for offenders with potential mental health issues PREREQUISITES: None
ADVANCED TRAINING DESCRIPTION: The Advanced Training is a two-day course that is required for all community corrections case management and clinical staff in order to complete their SOA-R training certification. The course is required three (3) months after successful completion of the formal SOA-R training. After staff have been formally trained on the SOA-R process and have practical experience with the SOA-R instruments and process, they will return for two more days of advanced training. Trainees will learn an advanced application of the SOA-R process. Emphasis will be placed on several case studies in order to provide a deeper and broader application of the SOA-R process as well as case planning. Staff will not be considered to have completed the SOA-R training until they have successfully completed an Advanced Training course.

PREREQUISITES: To be eligible to attend the Advanced Training, trainees must have successfully completed the two-day BASIC Training. Additionally, trainees must also have administered the SOA-R process to offenders for a minimum of three months.
