Local Law Enforcement Grant (LLEG)

Purpose of the Funds: The purpose of the Rural Law Enforcement (RLE) funds, a mini-grant process of the Justice Assistance Grant, is to provide units of local governments with funds to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety.  Grants are limited to $7,500 and there is no match required.

Eligibility & Requirements: Only law enforcement agencies are eligible to apply for these funds subject to the following limitation: Agencies that are eligible to receive JAG Direct Awards from the Bureau of Justice Assistance are NOT eligible to apply for these funds.  A list of agencies that are NOT eligible to apply for RLE funds can be found by clicking on the following link which provides a list Direct JAG Award Recipients.

Solicitation Schedule: The LLEG opens up for applications in late summer or early fall of each year.  Generally, six weeks are given between the announcement and when applications will be due.  The JAG Board meets to make preliminary funding decision in October and then final decisions are made in November after the reconsideration process.  Grant periods are January 1 to June 30 of each year.
