On April 30, 2009, Anna Lopez was awarded the 2008 Division of Criminal Justice Employee of the Year Award. This award is presented to an individual who exhibits exemplary performance and a willingness to go above and beyond her own very high standards.
Anna has been with DCJ since 1994 and is a grant manager for a number of programs. She serves as a specialist in juvenile justice and delinquency issues and is currently part of the OAJJA unit. Her experience has included serving as staff to the Coalition for Minority Youth Equality (CMYE) activities, working on minority over representation in the criminal justice system, and is working with the models for Change project under the MacArthur Foundation. Anna is also instrumental in organizing the local youth volunteers, the charity Art Auction and obtaining local speaker panels for the National Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Conference, which was held in Denver for the first time in many years. Anna consistently ensures that Colorado and Denver are represented in an exemplary manner when she is in charge!
Her dedication to youth and youth prevention, juvenile justice, or minority over representation coupled with her review and evaluation of these programs over the years has allowed her to develop a level of expertise that enables her to serve as a subject matter expert in these areas.
In addition to these tasks, Anna also serves as an informal advocate for youth at Urban Peak. With her extra efforts this program continues to provide meals for homeless youth at Urban Peak.
One of the most important contributions that Anna makes
to the Division is her commitment to service beyond the job. She serves
as an example to many with her attitude of service.
DCJ's 2008 Team Productivity Award
DeAnn Alvarez, Barbara Davis, Mona Fitzmaurice, Chris Lobanov-Rostovsky, Laurence Lucero, Paul Shibata and Bill Simpson were awarded the 2008 Division of Criminal Justice Team Productivity Award.
In 2008, the Administration Unit completed a strategic
planning process to enhance efficiency and quality control. A customer
service survey was prepared for the DCJ staff and the results were reviewed
by the Admin unit staff to determine a suitable course of action to enhance
customer service.
A number of measures were adopted to redesign and facilitate many processes
such as providing additional trainings and adopting greener initiatives
with the on-line capacities. The unit held a ‘Breakfast with the
Admin Unit’ in order to provide DCJ customers with information about
changes made within the unit to increase efficiency and decrease costs,
Admin unit reorganization, points of contact, and to provide a forum for
questions/suggestions from staff. Finally, the Admin unit met with each
program staff individually to specifically address any areas of concern
and solicit input. The Admin unit has been working to improve communications
and respond in a most efficient way to the Division needs.
DCJ's 2008 Greening Government
Lee Hettema was rewarded the 2008 Division of Criminal Justice Greening Government Award.
In August 2008, the Office of Victims Programs and CRCPI discussed the ways to implement the Governor’s “Greening Initiative” and Lee volunteered to collect and take home all of the recyclable items that the state does not currently recycle.
Lee is dedicated to improving the environment and she does more than
talk the talk, she takes action. The Division is very appreciative of
Lee’s willingness to go beyond the call of duty and lead the way
in helping to support the Governor’s Greening Initiative.
